Son of Shaolin Jay Longino Caanan White Books Reviews
- "Battle-scarred shogun, explosion when my pen hits...Shackling the masses with drastic rap tactics/Graphic displays melt the steel like blacksmiths" Inspectah Deck, Wu-Tang Clan - Triumph. The group that merged hip-hop & martial arts is THE ONLY way to begin the review for the graphic novel that merges stunning comic book graphics with an incredible martial arts/father&son/redemption story. The way the author & artist blended story line, action and beautiful artwork is amazing. The entire time I was reading it, "Enter The 36 Chambers was playing in my subconscious while thinking - this would make a great movie. I'm going to go on the record and state emphatically I HATE Jay Longino!!! Because now I have to wait like a junkie looking for their next fix for the chapter in this incredible story.
Chicks hit the floor, die hard fans demand more
Behold the bold soldier, control the globe slowly
Proceeds to blow swingin' swords like Shinobi
Stomp grounds I pound footprints in solid rock
Wu got it locked, performin' live on your hottest block...Jay, don't keep us waiting - One of the best in ages. The Rock bought the rights to make this hit big screen and after reading can see why. Concept is self contained and ancient wisdom meets todays generation in a timeless tradition of martial science. Love it when outlaw rebels become the good guys and find self discovery. Look forward to more from this stellar team ... Great art, Awesome story, Amazing color use and All around Extraordinary book.

The story is an awesome coming of age and bearing the mantle of a legacy that you weren't ready for
I can't Rave enough about Mr Whites art, the fluidity of the Kung Fu tells me he had to at least visually study some forms and practices. You feel the grace and power of the animals as the fists and feet fly!!! If you live the Wuxia then get this book. I just hope Their are more books soon !!!! - The artwork is fantastic and the story is supposed be 3 books long...this is the first book and I feel that 3 books will bring a satisfying conclusion to a great story. I don't want to spoil things, but there is much to like, with a fine blend of action and storytelling that feels just right and leaves you wanting the next book in your hands! The elements in the story, with "misunderstood street youth" are there and the character starts off brash, but develops layers that feel familiar, but also fresh. Definitely worth a read.
- Pre-ordered the book. Read half at lunch and half once I got home. Love the story line and artwork. Takes me back to growing up watching Shoalin movies and hip hop. Eagerly awaiting the sequels. If you love comics, hip hop, and Kung Fu, this is a must buy.
- I blazed right past the forward even though I understand that it was very well written. From the artwork, color, and first frames I was drawn in. The story doesn't waste time with action involved in the story. The characters are believable and plot twists make for quite a compelling first issue. I can't wait for the next issue and see how the main character Kyrie advances! Definitely get this comic!!
- Energetic, old-school super storytelling, backed by phenomenally rendered art and imagery! Son of Shaolin is exactly what a superhero comic should be...and it's about damn time!
- Whole family loved it! Cant wait for the next part of the story.
